Libya and the IRA
by planetparker
British Prime Minister Gordon Brown has announced the creation of a special Foreign Office team to assist IRA victims’ families in their search for compensation from the government of the Libyan Jamahuriyah. What about the victims of loyalist violence? The dogs in the street are aware of British intelligence involvement in the Talbot St. bombings in Dublin. Will Mr Brown give compensation to surviving vifctims of this atrocity I wonder?

ciaran: saddened to learn from your posting today that the bad economy has forced the Cavan Echo to shut down. It was a good newspaper: informative, objective and unbiased, entertaining and, apparently, independent. I was a newspaperman. I know.
disappointed that Anglo-Celt management had indicated it had no interest in offering to be the outlet for your Echoes of the Past column.
dismayed by your declaration that you have decided to end the column. understand your decision. Professional writers do it for money.
can only hope that in time you reconsider your decision and continue your column online. I would pay to read them. they are that good. because you have a gift: your writing is graceful and accessible. you make history come alive.
writing for subscription has a precedent in ireland. edward o’reilly sold subscriptions to his “Chronological List of 400 Irish Writers” published in dublin in 1820 by the iberno-celtic society.
have old newspaper pals here in nyc who write columns online and charge for access. it can be done.
look up len levitt and jerry capeci. they write nypd confidential and wise guys.
